Facelift in Bergen County, NJ
One of the most common aesthetic enhancement procedures available at our North Jersey practice is also one of the most effective: the facelift.
Facelift surgery addresses a number of issues one may have with how they look, including deep folds, wrinkles, and other signs of aging and exhaustion that are too significant to treat with non-surgical skin tightening techniques like Ultherapy®. Facelift procedures available from our board-certified plastic surgeons in North Jersey can take years off the face and give your skin a smoother, more youthful, and more refreshed appearance.
Luis A. Zapiach, MD, and John T. Cozzone, MD, both offer a variety of facelift techniques that can create natural-looking, beautiful results without giving away the fact that you’ve had plastic surgery. Speak to our team today about a facelift in our Bergen County practice.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Bergen County, NJ?
One of the first questions patients ask when considering facial rejuvenation is, naturally, “How much does a facelift cost?” It is an important practical consideration, but because every face is unique, there is no single price tag that applies to everyone. How much a facelift costs in Bergen County, NJ, will really depend on your needs and wants. To find out how much a facelift will cost for you, you will need to contact our office to schedule a consultation.
What Are the Benefits of a Facelift?
Having facelift surgery at our North Jersey practice will offer numerous benefits to individuals seeking to minimize signs of aging and create a rejuvenated and revitalized facial appearance.
Based on your specific needs and goals, this popular procedure can be individually tailored to help:
- Reduce notable lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases
- Lift and tighten loose, sagging skin of the face
- Tighten lax facial musculature
- Augment and/or restore lost volume in the cheeks and midface
- Diminish localized fat buildup throughout the face
In addition to these cosmetic improvements, facelift surgery can usually be combined with complementary treatments like a brow lift, eyelid surgery, and aesthetic injectables to create an even more comprehensive facial enhancement.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
Not everyone is ready for a facelift, and part of our job at Art Plastic Surgery is to ensure that this procedure aligns with your physical health and aesthetic goals. Generally, the best candidates are men and women who demonstrate distinct signs of facial aging but still possess some skin elasticity and a well-defined bone structure.
Specifically, you might be a good candidate if you identify with the following:
- You have deep lines extending from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
- You have lost well-defined jaw contours due to jowls or excess fat.
- You have loose skin, wrinkles, or excess fatty tissue in the neck.
- Your face looks tired or sad, even when you are well-rested and happy.
Health Considerations
Ideal candidates for facelift surgery in Bergen County, NJ, should be in good general health and free from medical conditions that could impair healing.
Patients must also be non-smokers. Smoking significantly compromises blood flow to the skin, which can affect healing and the final results. If you smoke, you will be required to quit for a specific period before and after surgery.
Realistic Expectations
A facelift will make you look younger and fresher, but it will not make you look like a different person, nor can it stop the aging process entirely. The goal is improvement, not perfection. Patients with a positive outlook and realistic expectations are typically the happiest with their facelift results.
How Is the Facelift Procedure Performed?
Facelift surgery is a highly individualized procedure. At Art Plastic Surgery, Dr. Cozzone and Dr. Zapiach tailor the technique to your specific anatomy and goals at the time of the consultation. We may recommend a full facelift or a mid-facelift.
The Full Facelift
A traditional facelift typically begins with incisions made at the temples, above the hairline. The incisions will extend to the front of the ear or inside the front-ear cartilage, going to the back of the earlobe. Our plastic surgeons will then separate the facial skin and fat from the underlying muscles and then tighten the muscles. The excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is tightened for a smoother, less wrinkled appearance. The incisions are closed, and the procedure is then complete.
Most full facelift surgeries take about two to three hours to perform, depending on the extent of the procedure.
The Mid-Facelift
The mid-facelift targets the center of the face, specifically the area below the eyes and around the cheeks. Using smaller incisions (often similar to those used in eyelid surgery or within the hairline), the surgeon lifts the cheek fat pads back to their original position over the cheekbones. This restores fullness to the cheeks and softens the nasolabial folds, creating a perky, youthful look without necessarily addressing the jawline or neck.
Recovery From a Facelift Procedure
Recovery from a facelift procedure will entail some bruising and swelling after surgery; however, any pain and discomfort can be managed with medication. Our surgeons will advise you to keep the head elevated for a few days following surgery, and patients will often be required to wear bandages on the face for a few days while the face heals.
Most patients can resume normal daily routines about 10 days after facelift surgery, though more strenuous activities will need to be avoided for a bit longer to help ensure proper healing.
Can You Get a Facelift Without Surgery?
For those who are not quite ready for the operating room, or whose signs of aging are mild to moderate, non-surgical options can be an excellent alternative. While they cannot replicate the durability or extent of a surgical facelift, they offer significant improvements with little to no downtime.
- Ultherapy®: Art Plastic Surgery is proud to offer Ultherapy, a non-invasive treatment that uses ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin naturally. This stimulates the production of new collagen, resulting in a gradual lift of the brow, chin, and neck over several months.
- The Liquid Facelift: By strategically combining dermal fillers (like Juvéderm® or Restylane®) with neuromodulators (like BOTOX®), our injectors can restore lost volume to the cheeks, smooth out wrinkles, and even camouflage mild jowls, though maintenance treatments are required to sustain the look.
Other Facial Treatments to Consider
A facelift is often just one piece of the puzzle. To achieve total satisfaction, many patients at Art Plastic Surgery choose to combine their facelift with other procedures.
- Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty): While a full facelift improves the neck, some patients have significant banding (excess neck skin) that requires dedicated attention. A neck lift specifically tightens the platysma muscles and removes excess skin to eliminate the turkey wattle and restore a graceful neckline.
- Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): If you have drooping upper lids or puffy bags under your eyes, combining your facelift with blepharoplasty can open up your expression and make you look truly well-rested.
- Brow Lift: A heavy, sagging brow can make you look angry or tired. A brow lift raises the forehead skin and eyebrows, smoothing horizontal lines and reducing hooding over the eyes.
- Laser Skin Resurfacing: Surgery addresses the structure of the face, but it doesn’t change the texture of the skin itself. Laser treatments can be the icing on the cake, erasing sun spots, fine vertical lip lines, and acne scars to give your tightened skin a radiant, even glow.
Facelift FAQS
Does facelift surgery address the entire face?
While it is certainly the most comprehensive facial procedure available, facelift surgery will only address the lower two-thirds of the face. As a result, individuals bothered by signs of aging in the upper third of the face (essentially the eyes and forehead region) will benefit most from combining their facelift with eyelid surgery and/or brow lift if they wish to rejuvenate these areas as well.
What is the best age for a facelift?
Due to a variety of factors, including lifestyle habits, environmental elements, and genetics, there is no specific age that is considered “best” for a facelift.
Our plastic surgeons have performed facelift surgery for patients of many different ages, all of whom were considered good candidates based on their specific needs and desires at the time. If our doctors determine that facelift surgery is not right for you during your consultation, they will recommend a more appropriate treatment option.
Will scarring be noticeable?
Incisions for facelift surgery are usually made above/behind the hairline, which means any scarring is often concealed by one’s hair. As an added benefit, the appearance of any potential scarring tends to improve over time with proper care and strict adherence to postoperative restrictions throughout the healing process. In the majority of cases, the only people who will know you have received a facelift will be you, your surgeon, and anyone you choose to tell.
Will there be a lot of pain?
Our plastic surgeons take great care to minimize tissue trauma throughout the facelift procedure, which ultimately helps reduce any pain that may be experienced after surgery. At our Paramus, NJ, practice, most patients report experiencing nothing more than mild to moderate discomfort that can be effectively alleviated with medicine.
How long do facelift results last?
Facelift results tend to last an average of about seven to ten years for most patients, though this can vary based on factors such as tissue elasticity, lifestyle habits, postoperative skin care, genetics, and much more. When results do eventually start to diminish, patients will still appear younger than they would if they never received a facelift.
