Brow Lift – Forehead Lift in Paramus at Art Plastic Surgery
Over time, the muscles and connective tissues that support the forehead tend to weaken and sag. This sometimes results in the appearance of frown lines – deep wrinkles that can make you look tired, sad, or angry. While non-surgical treatments, like Botox®, can minimize forehead creases in the short-term, some patients prefer a permanent solution. At Art Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Luis A. Zapiach and Dr. John T. Cozzone use brow lift surgery to smooth the forehead and raise the brows. This minimally invasive procedure, which is also known as forehead lift surgery, can create long-lasting results with little downtime.
What is Brow Lift Surgery?
Brow lift surgery is sometimes confused with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), but it’s actually a separate procedure. However, brow lift surgery is frequently combined with eyelid surgery to uniformly raise the upper face and restore a youthful, vibrant look. At Art Plastic Surgery, our surgeons provide two different brow lift options: The endoscopic lift and the temporal lift.
At Art Plastic Surgery, we perform brow lift surgery with an endoscope and a series of thin instruments. The endoscope contains a tiny camera that allows our doctors to examine the muscles and connective tissues within the forehead without making lengthy incisions. Instead, they make just a few micro-incisions behind the patient’s hairline. Then, they carefully lift sagging muscle and connective tissue and secure it in place, creating youthful forehead contours. Using this technique virtually eliminates scarring and offers a much shorter recovery time than conventional brow lift surgery.
The temporal brow lift technique is often used when the patient has chosen to have a combined brow lift and eyelid surgery, though a temporal lift can also be performed as a standalone procedure. During this procedure, our surgeons make two short (about one inch long) incisions behind the hairline. Using this location ensures that any resulting scar tissue will be hidden by the patient’s hair. Then, they lift the lateral portions of each brow, correcting any sagging that has occurred over time.

The Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery
Brow lift surgery has several potential benefits; it can:
- Make you look friendly, alert, and engaging. This can be very beneficial in both personal and professional situations.
- Improve your confidence without impacting your busy schedule.
- Improve your peripheral vision (when combined with eyelid surgery).
- Provide long-lasting cosmetic enhancement. The results of just one brow lift can last for up to seven years.
When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Zapiach and Dr. Cozzone will ask you about your cosmetic goals and recovery preferences. They’ll help you select the right brow lift method to meet your needs and discuss whether you’d like to combine your brow lift with other procedures, like eyelid surgery or injectable treatments. This highly personalized approach is integral to creating natural, flattering results that accentuate your best features. Brow Lift FAQ
Brow lift recovery is typically brief. Because this procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis, you will be able to resume some light activities as soon as you return home. After about three days, swelling and discomfort will start to subside, though some residual swelling may remain for two to three weeks. Most patients can return to work one week after having their forehead lifted. Sometimes, patients who have endoscopic brow lift surgery can return to work in three to five days. However, you might need to limit certain activities, like driving and vigorous exercise, until your deeper tissues have healed. Our doctors will let you know when it’s safe to resume all your normal activities.
For about four weeks after you have a forehead lift, you should be careful to protect the treatment area from direct sunlight. Exposing still-healing incisions to UV light can cause dark or thick scar tissue to form. Wear a hat whenever you go outside, even on cloudy days, until your incisions are no longer pink.
Forehead lifts are generally suitable for adults over age 35 who are in good health and don’t smoke. Patients must also avoid the use of certain medications, like blood thinners (including NSAIDs and other over the counter pain relievers), for about two weeks before surgery. When you come in for a consultation, our doctors will review your complete medical history and current medication use to make sure that this procedure is right for you.
Cosmetically, the ideal brow lift candidate is someone who has the good overall facial skin tone, but who wishes to correct forehead lines and restore the arch of the brows. Patients who show signs of skin laxity (looseness) throughout the face and neck may require a combined facelift, neck lift, and brow lift to create even natural-looking results.
Yes, absolutely. Dr. Zapiach and Dr. Cozzone can adapt their surgical methods so that the incision sites they use are still hidden by your hairline, even if it has receded.
