About Dysport® and Xeomin®

Both brands of cosmetic injectables are classified as neuromodulators. Neuromodulators are compounds that work by temporarily blocking nerve signals in targeted areas. Once these nerve signals have been blocked, the nerves can no longer tell nearby muscles to contract. This process relaxes key muscle groups so that they no longer crease the skin when the patient smiles, laughs, or frowns. This both eliminates existing dynamic wrinkles and helps to prevent static wrinkles (fine lines that are visible even when the face is at rest) by reducing motion-related stress on the skin.

The Benefits of Cosmetic Injectables

Dysport® and Xeomin® contain versatile compounds that provide many unique advantages:

  • Resolved rid of crow’s feet, forehead lines, elevens, and other dynamic wrinkles (creases that appear in response to facial movements, like smiling).
  • Getting regular injections may help to prevent wrinkle formation.
  • Dysport® and Xeomin® can reduce the pain associated with migraine headaches and treat excessive perspiration.
  • This treatment requires no downtime. After having a neuromodulator injection, you’ll be able to resume all your normal activities. You won’t have to take any time off work to rest.
  • Cosmetic injections are very low-risk. There’s no risk of infection or other surgical complications after having treatment, and adverse reactions to this compound are rare. Most people don’t experience any side effects after having injections.
  • Dysport® and Xeomin® treatments are extremely convenient. Most appointments take just 15 to 30 minutes to complete. We diminish bruising and pain with nice and numbing cream pre-treatment of 30 minutes.

Dr. Cozzone and Dr. Zapiach will be happy to answer any questions you have and explain this procedure in more detail when you visit them for a consultation. You can also review the FAQ section provided below to learn more about injectable neuromodulators.

Frequently Asked Questions About Neuromodulator Injections

No. When administered by a trained, board-certified plastic surgeon, injections will not interfere with your ability to make facial expressions. Surgeons have the knowledge required to relax only those small muscles that create wrinkles, not the larger muscles that help you smile, laugh, or frown. Furthermore, because the effects of neuromodulators are temporary, injections cannot permanently “freeze” any area of the face.

The effects of cosmetic injections usually last four months on average. After this point, you should visit us for a second round of injections if you want to maintain your results. However, it’s important to understand that repeated Botox® treatments train the muscles to remain in a more relaxed state. Patients therefore may only need to have Dysport® or Xeomin® injected once every six months after their first few treatments.

No. Our doctors use an anesthetic cream to numb the skin before they inject Dysport® or Xeomin®, so you won’t even feel the injections. We also have ProNox available.

Yes; in fact, we often recommend doing exactly this. Our doctors frequently combine Dysport® and Xeomin® with other injectable treatments, like dermal fillers, to create dramatic and uniform results. Dermal fillers can fill creases that neuromodulators can’t treat, like smile lines.

Most people don’t experience any side effects after having injections. Sometimes patients notice slight tenderness or bruising around their injection sites, but these symptoms wear off after a few days. In rare cases, patients have reported experiencing a mild headache after treatment. If this happens to you, feel free to take an over the counter pain reliever to alleviate your symptoms.
