At Art Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons offer two facelift surgery techniques: a full facelift and a mid-facelift. While both methods have the same goal of helping to rejuvenate one’s facial appearance, the difference between the two involves the scope of the treatment area.
A mid-facelift focuses mainly on the cheek region, improving issues such as excess fat, loose skin, lax musculature, and lines in the midface. For many patients, a mid-facelift can also treat nasolabial creases found between the upper lip and nose. In contrast, a full facelift is designed to address signs of aging that are present throughout the entire lower two-thirds of the face. As a result, a full facelift can treat everything that a mid-facelift can, plus issues such as lines around the mouth, sagging skin along the jawline, and more.
With this information in mind, a mid-facelift can generally be an excellent option for individuals whose cosmetic concerns are limited to the cheeks and midface while a full facelift is typically a better choice for those whose concerns extend from the jawline to just above the cheeks. In either case, if a patient wishes to address aging symptoms in the eye and/or forehead region, he or she may want to also consider blepharoplasty and/or brow lift surgery, as neither facelift technique will enhance the upper third of the face.
