Thermitight v. Ultherapy: Who Should Have Which and Why?

A decade ago, invasive surgery was the only way to achieve visibly tighter, smoother skin. Today, procedures like Ultherapy and Thermitight can produce similar results, without discomfort or downtime.

If you’re wondering which of these procedures is right for you, contact Paramus plastic surgeons Dr. Luis A. Zapiach and Dr. John T. Cozzone at (201) 251-6622 to receive personalized recommendations. For a general comparison of Ultherapy and Thermitight, consult the guide below:

About Ultherapy and Thermitight

Ultherapy and Thermitight both induce deep tissue heating, which activates collagen production by triggering the body’s natural healing response. These procedures differ in the method they use to firm loose skin, however. Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves to generate detailed images of the treatment area before gently warming it, whereas Thermitight is a radiofrequency (RF) procedure.

Thermitight heats targeted tissue to a much higher temperature than Ultherapy, which may make it a better alternative for treating advanced skin laxity. By producing more heat, Thermitight can also melt unwanted fat while simultaneously tightening loose skin, but it has the downside of being a more invasive procedure. Unlike Ultherapy, which does not require any incisions, keyhole incisions are made during Thermitight to permit the insertion of RF probes.

Which Procedure is Right for You?

Ultherapy is recommended for most people who want to treat mild to moderate signs of facial aging, because it’s gentle, precise, and has been proven to create lasting results. Thermitight is a newer procedure, so while we know it’s effective, research is still being done on how long its effects last.

Ultherapy is probably right for you if:

-You prefer a completely noninvasive approach to skin tightening.

-You’re between the ages of 35-50.

-You want to firm loose skin on your face, neck, and jowls.

Thermitight might be a good choice for you if:

-You want to slim certain areas while also tightening loose skin.

-You want to treat multiple areas of your body, such as your face, neck, arms, legs, chest, and abdomen.

-You’re between the ages of 50-70 or older.

-You don’t mind undergoing a slightly more invasive procedure.

-You don’t have any health conditions that prevent you from having Thermitight.

The best way to find out whether Thermitight or Ultherapy can achieve your goals is to talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Our doctors will perform a thorough examination of your face and neck, then suggest the least invasive way to address your concerns.
