Juvederm® is one of the most recent dermal fillers to become available, and is quickly becoming one of the most popular. Both men and women looking to reduce the signs of aging in the face can achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance with Juvederm® at Art Plastic Surgery. Our board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Luis A. Zapiach and Dr. John T. Cozzone, use the injectable dermal filler to fill in fine lines and deep wrinkles, as well as add volume to facial features and enhance the appearance of the lips.

The Juvederm® Procedure

Juvederm® provides a soft look and smooth feel with results that are known to be long-lasting. The dermal injectable filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Allergy testing is not necessary with Juvederm®, therefore there is no waiting period. The dermal filler is injected with a thin, fine needle directly into the targeted areas, with results appearing almost immediately, with further improvement over the next few days.

Typical Juvederm® procedures last up to thirty minutes depending on the number of areas being treated. Injections are often made with a local anesthetic for greater patient comfort during the procedure.

Juvederm® Recovery

There is typically no downtime associated with Juvederm® treatments, and patients can expect to return to their daily routines directly after the procedure. While some bruising and swelling can occur, these mild side effects should dissipate within a few days.

Restylane® is cosmetic dermal filler that is derived from hyaluronic acid, a compound naturally found in the body. The dermal filler is used to restore volume and fullness to the skin, and can also be used to correct for following cosmetic facial concerns:

  • Moderate facial wrinkles and folds
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Lip augmentation
  • Hollows under the eyes
  • Loss of facial volume

Because Restylane® is a natural compound that is not derived from animal sources, allergy testing is not required and there is a very low risk of any side effects other than redness and swelling at the injection site, which typically dissipates within two to three days.

The Restylane® Procedure

Restylane® was the first hyaluronic acid filler to receive FDA approval for the treatment of nasolabial folds, commonly known as the parentheses or lines that appear around the mouth as a result of aging. Restylane® is different from BOTOX® Cosmetic because it corrects wrinkles by filling in the voids under the skin, instead of temporarily relaxing facial muscles.

The injection procedure is short and simple, and performed in office following the application of a topical anesthetic. The procedure takes about fifteen to twenty minutes depending upon the number of areas to be treated.

Restylane® Recovery

The effects of Restylane® have been shown to last six months to a year depending on the site treated, the patient’s lifestyle, and their skin characteristics. Patients receiving Restylane® injections are typically able to return to their daily routines immediately following the procedure, although some swelling, redness, and bruising may appear later in the day and continue for two to three days.

For patients who desire more long-term results from facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers, Radiesse® may be an effective option. Radiesse® can be used to augment and add volume to facial features, plus improve the appearance of wrinkles, smile lines, furrows and creases, and the lines that extend from the corners of the mouth. Radiesse® uses a unique formula designed to stimulate the body’s own collagen, and results are almost immediate. Results from Radiesse® have been known to last one year, and even up to 18 months in some cases.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting, also known as fat injections or fat transfer, can provide long-lasting facial rejuvenation without relying on manufactured substances. Fat grafting involves taking excess fat cells from a donor area of your body and injecting them into facial areas targeted for rejuvenation. The procedure can be very useful for smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, as well as adding volume to facial features such as the lips and cheeks. Fat grafting can sometimes be combined with a liposuction procedure, which can provide the fat for the facial rejuvenation procedure. The harvested fat is thoroughly processed and purified after removal, and then injected into the target areas. Although results vary with each patient, the effects of fat grafting can last for years.
