Natural Breast Augmentation
Dr. John T. Cozzone and Dr. Luis A. Zapiach are two of the few plastic surgeons in America to offer “natural breast augmentation,” a breast enlargement technique that takes fat from one part of the body and moves it to the breasts to add volume and fullness. Breast augmentation using fat transfer is really two procedures in one: liposuction for areas of the body such as the abdomen, love handles, and/or thighs; and the relocation of the extracted fat to the breasts for breast augmentation. This procedure minimizes scarring and reduces risks associated with breast implants.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation Using Fat Transfer?
There are many advantages to natural breast augmentation. Some primary benefits of using fat to enlarge and reshape the breasts include the following:
- Fat transfer allows for incredible customization when enlarging and reshaping the breasts
- Using substances natural to the human body for breast augmentation takes away the risks of introducing foreign materials (breast implants) into the chest
- The procedure gives patients a dual aesthetic benefit by removing excess fat from specific body regions, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs.
- Natural breast augmentation requires fewer incisions than traditional techniques, and therefore, less residual scarring
How Is Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer Performed?
Natural breast augmentation with fat transfer utilizes your own body fat to help you add volume to the breasts. At the time of the consultation, Dr. Zapiach or Dr. Cozzone will talk with you about your goals and identify the best area(s) to harvest the fat—whether it be the thighs, love handles, and/or abdomen. Once the harvest site and treatment plan have been agreed upon, surgery can be scheduled.
During the natural breast augmentation procedure, your surgeon will first perform liposuction on the donor area, removing the excess fat. The fat that is extracted will then be purified and injected in tiny amounts into the breasts until an optimal size and contour is achieved. This makes it possible for very precise shaping of the breast, in addition to added breast volume.
What Is Natural Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?
Following breast augmentation using fat transfer, patients can typically expect some degree of swelling and bruising to occur in the breasts and donor regions. These side effects are temporary and should diminish with the passage of time. Any discomfort or soreness that may be experienced throughout the recovery period can usually be alleviated with medication, and the majority of individuals feel comfortable enough to resume office jobs and other non-strenuous routines after about seven to ten days. Despite this return to normal daily routines, our doctors advise that all activities that may put strain on the breasts and/or donor site —such as heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, certain sports, etc.—be avoided for several weeks to aid the healing process and limit the potential for any postoperative issues.

Does natural breast augmentation have any disadvantages?
In comparison to breast augmentation with implants, there are some disadvantages associated with this procedure. Natural breast augmentation often only increases breast size by about one bra-cup, so it may not be useful for patients who are looking to substantially enlarge the breasts. Also, in some cases, not all of the transferred fat remains. The procedure usually requires one to three treatment sessions (transferring of the harvested fat) to attain optimal results. Together, you and your plastic surgeon can decide whether natural breast augmentation is the right option for you, or if traditional breast augmentation would be better suited for your needs and goals.
Am I a candidate for natural breast augmentation?
To be considered a good candidate for natural breast augmentation, patients need to have an ample amount of excess fat on their body to remove and transfer to the breasts. This fat can come from one location, or our doctors can extract a small quantity from multiple sites. In addition, patients must have proper expectations for what can realistically be achieved. As previously mentioned, breast augmentation with fat transfer usually only enlarges the breasts by about one cup size. At the time of the consultation, Dr. Zapiach or Dr. Cozzone will discuss these factors (and more) in full detail to determine proper candidacy.
How much does natural breast augmentation cost?
Like all procedures performed at our practice, breast augmentation with fat transfer is custom-tailored based on the specific needs and goals of the individual, so the cost of treatment will vary from patient to patient. Key components that affect the overall price include the total quantity of fat extracted and transferred to the breasts, as well as how many treatment sessions are required to achieve the desired results. During a consultation, our doctors can provide a personalized answer to this question after performing a physical examination and gaining a clear idea of the outcome you wish to achieve. If desired, a member of our team can introduce you to plastic surgery financing through CareCredit®, a respected healthcare lender that offers several affordable monthly payment plan options for individuals seeking to finance the cost of their aesthetic treatment.
