Following a mommy makeover, the total recovery time will depend on the specific procedures you wish to receive, how many are performed, and whether or not the various treatments are conducted at separate times or in conjunction with one another.
Generally speaking, mommy makeovers involve a combination of breast enhancement and abdominal contouring. For some patients this could be a breast augmentation and a tummy tuck, for others it may be a mastopexy and liposuction, or it might even be a combination of all four (or more) procedures. Regardless of the specific pairing of treatments, however, the abdominal operation – i.e. abdominoplasty and/or liposuction – typically dictates how long recovery will be, as recuperation from breast surgery tends to be a bit shorter in comparison.
In most cases, recovery from liposuction is relatively quick, with the majority of individuals being able to resume normal daily routines and non-strenuous activities within approximately five to seven days. In contrast, most patients require about one to two weeks of recovery and downtime after tummy tuck surgery before regular, non-rigorous activities and routines can be safely and comfortably resumed. As a result, when abdominoplasty is performed as part of a mommy makeover, the amount of recovery time that can usually be expected is at least one to two weeks. Additionally, it is often recommended that any heavy lifting and/or strenuous exercise be avoided for a minimum of six weeks to ensure optimal healing (though this is typically true no matter what procedures are conducted).
Ultimately, each individual’s reaction to the various procedures combined to create a mommy makeover will vary, so recovery will be different for everyone. In fact, we’ve had patients who were able fully resume normal activities within one week, as well as others who needed additional recuperation beyond the normal two-week period for abdominoplasty.
